A Southport, CT historic home that became famous in ‘And So It Goes’
We took a ride through Fairfield County, Connecticut this past weekend.
Our trip started in Wilton, Connecticut, visiting the Wilton Historical Society. The buildings did not disappoint. We then headed east to Southport. We have visited this tiny quaint town by the water several times. The view of Long Island sound is amazing, to say the least. This white colonial house on Harbor Road has some interesting history. A doctor and his wife erected this house on the location it presently sits. They certainly have a beautiful view of the Long Island sound! When this couple decided to move south to Williamsburg, Virginia they built a replica of this amazing historic home, including the color of the exterior and the period rooms and furnishings of their previous home in Southport.
Nearly 300 years later, this home became movie-famous in 2014.
The house was featured in the movie “And So It Goes” with Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton.

If you have ever seen the movie, you will see this house in the opening scene as Michael Douglas is driving his car into the town of Southport. The house was a dark brown stain with red trim. When the couple reproduced this historic house in Williamsburg they painted the exterior of the house the same colors. They truly loved their old home and wanted to reproduce their historic home in Williamsburg. This saltbox was originally built in 1715 by Samuel Bradley in East Haven. The house was occupied by his descendants until 1945, in 1945-1948 it was moved and reconstructed in Southport, CT.
